Spiritual Warfare: Battling the Opposition – Nehemiah Rebuilds a City

The ArmorIn continuation of the Old Testament character series, Pastor David gave a phenomenal, prophetic message from Nehemiah Chapters 4-6. The background is Nehemiah was on the journey of rebuilding the walls of the city and was met with fierce opposition. In each trial, Nehemiah countered the opposition with Godly character.

The Opposition
• Ridicule (4:1-3): “…What are these feeble Jews doing? Are they going to restore it for themselves?…”
The Response
• Cry (4:4-5): “Hear, O our God, how we (you God and we your people) are despised! Return their reproach on their own heads…”
The Opposition
• Threats (4:7-8): “Now when they heard that the repair of the walls of Jerusalem went on, and that the breaches began to be closed, they were very angry. All of them conspired together to come and fight against Jerusalem and to cause a disturbance.”
The Response
• Cry & Bear Arms (4:9, 13): “But we prayed to our God, and because of them we set up a guard against them day and night…then I stationed men in the lowest parts of space behind the wall,…I stationed the people in families with their swords, spears and bows.”
The Opposition
• Discouragement (4:10-12): “…The strength of the burden bearers is failing…”
The Response
• Encouragement (4:14): “Do not be afraid of them; remember the Lord who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, yours sons, your daughters, your wives and your houses.”
The Opposition
• Financial (5:1-5): “…We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards and our houses…we have borrowed money…we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves…”
The Response
• Cry (5:19): “Remember me, O my God…”
The Opposition
• Trickery (6:1-4): “They sent a message to me, saying “Come let us meet together at Chephirim in the plain of Ono”. But they were planning to harm me. So I sent messengers to them saying “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?” They sent messages to me four times in this manner, and I answered them in the same way.”
The Response
• Stayed on task (6:3)
The Opposition
• Slander (6:5-7): “It is reported among the nations, and Gashmu says, that you and the Jews are planning to rebel; therefore you are rebuilding the wall. And you are to be their king, according to these reports.”
The Response
• Call for courage (6:9): “For all of them were trying to frighten us, thinking, They will become discouraged with the work and it will not be done. But now, O God, STRENGTHEN MY HANDS.”
The Opposition
• Counterfeit counsel (6:10): “Let us meet together in the house of God…for they are coming to kill you, and they are coming to kill you at night.”
The Response
• Discernment & Cry (6:12-14): “Then I perceived that surely God had not sent him. He was hired for this reason, that I might become frightened and act accordingly and sin, so that they might have an evil report in order that they could reproach me. Remember, O my God, them according to these works of theirs, and also the (false) prophetess and the rest of the (false) prophets who were trying to frighten me.”

Summary:
Nehemiah was commissioned by God to do a particular work. He kept his mind on the task at hand in spite of repeated, mounting opposition. He was ridiculed, threatened, discouraged, financially bound, tricked, slandered, and given false counsel but still pressed on. He called upon God throughout the various trials and trusted in God’s ability to guard him and see the task finished. Nehemiah demonstrated enduring character and trust in God, inspiring us to also endure the various trials and trust in God’s ability to see the task he has given you completed. If God gave you the task to begin, God will give you the tools to finish it. Amen

• “So the wall was completed on the twenty fifth of the month Elul, in fifty two days. When all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations surrounding us saw it, they lost their confidence; for they recognized that this work has been accomplished with the help of our God.” Nehemiah 6:15-16

• There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the LORD. Psalm 21:30

Spiritual Warfare: Medicine for the Common Spiritual Cold – Inner Healing & Deliverance Prayers

ColdEver feel unexplainably overwhelmed physically or mentally?  Ever feel like you were hit by a semi truck after completing Ministry work or consecrating yourself to the King of Kings, Lord of Lords.  Ever feel unexplainably gross, confused, or filled with strife?  Ever have your past or temptation conveniently show up after its been long nailed to the Cross?

Diagnosis: the Common Spiritual Cold.  Your work for the Ministry of the Lord has attracted the attention of the prince of the air and his workers.  You have been chosen by Abba to clean up the works of the enemy and the enemy has chosen to wage a spiritual battle against you to discourage you from Kingdom work.  See the story of Job.  No worries, Abba and his angels are here to guard us!

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Ephesians 6:12

Prescription: The Word of God is the way to counter the works of the enemy.  Read and speak it out loud, and pray that you, your home, your marriage, your family, your work, your ministry, your children, and your friendships will all be covered in the Blood of Jesus Christ.  Then declare that all unclean and attacking spirits would be rebuked and covered in the Blood of Jesus.  They will scurry might fast!  😉  Then read the following scriptures for your encouragement and subsequent prayers of deliverance on a regular basis, even as much as every few hours.  –  Blessings and Be Encouraged!

For He will give His angels charge concerning you, To guard you in all your ways. – Psalm 91:11

Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. – Luke 10:19

These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. – Mark 16:17-18

Breaking Generational Curses

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and by the power of his Word, I take the sword of the Spirit and cut myself free from all generational inherited sins, weaknesses, character defects, personality traits, cellular disorders, and genetic disorders. I sever all unhealthy soul-ties and forms of enmeshment and cut all bonds that are not of the Lord. I put his cross between myself, my parents, my grandparents, my siblings, my offspring, my mates, and any unhealthy relationships that my mates have had with others in the past. I cut all bonds of these relationships that are not of the Lord back to the beginning of time, and by the sword of the Spirit, and in the name of Jesus Christ, I say that I am now free, free to be the child of God the Lord intended me to be.

Breaking Curses – Rev. Bozada

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I rebuke all spells, hexes, curses, voodoo practices, witchcraft, satanic rituals, incantations, evil wishes, and fasting prayers, not of the Lord, that have been sent my way, or have passed down the generational bloodline. I take authority over all of them and command that they go back where they came from and be replaced with a blessing. I ask forgiveness for and renounce all negative inner vows that I have made and ask you, Lord Jesus, to release me from any bondage they may have held in me. I claim your shed blood over all aspects of my life and relationships, and ask you to wash away and cleanse me from all impurities, in your name, Lord Jesus Christ.  Amen

Discernment: Heritage and Healing during the Holidays

trailoftearsI don’t know about you but my earthly culture of origin loves its identity.  I’ve always known my heritage from an early age and placed high value on it.  As I’ve grown into adulthood and in my faith I have come to know my heritage as a daughter of Eternal Papa.  I am one of the many daughters adopted into the eternal family of Christ.  My prayer is that we all would vest our heritage in our heavenly eternal family.

I don’t know about you but almost every month I get asked, “Where are you from ?”, “Did you grow up in the states?”, “Where are your parents/grandparents from…originally?”.  I never really identified myself as ethnically ambiguous but I guess in a country of many Nations and with a mixed heritage of many African nations, I guess it might be a bit confusing for someone trying to figure out my heritage.  I suppose I would rather have someone ask my heritage than stare and not ask.  Well earlier this year I was asked one of these questions by an older Somali man.  I gave him my usual “I am from America.”  He persisted in asking the nation of origin of my parents and I persisted with “America”.  He then persisted in asking the nation of origin of my grandparents/great grandparents and I persisted with “America”.  Then he flatly asked “Where in Africa is your family originally from?”  He was certain my family was from or near Somali.  I then shared that my family is from America and we don’t know where in Africa we are from actually.  He like many who have asked me this question persisted that I should find out.

Well minus one story of thousands of Africans non-willfully being brought to the Americas and mixed amongst each other, it’d be pretty hard to pinpoint exactly my true ethnic nation of origin.  There are some rare times when I am curious but that curiosity passes as my joy in my eternal heritage takes over.  Who can beat the eternal and royal heritage of the King of King, Lord of Lords?!  So the following story is about the Heritage of Americans and the Believer.

I agree that some of this country’s original immigrants (i.e. forefathers) were Believers.  Many worked tirelessly to get my forefathers freed from slavery.  But I also know that some of this country’s original immigrants (i.e. forefathers) were not Believers.  One that kills, steals, and destroys in the name of religion does not understand the Faith and is not my forefather.  Forefather is a powerful word that assumes the heritage and inherited “stuff” (good and bad including generational sins) to you.  One observation about this country is the varied views of how it was founded.  There are some of us who believe it was founded by Christians.  There are some of us who believe it was founded by European Explorers (sans the Christian faith).  Ask a Native American about who they believe founded the U.S.A and your answer might be different?  Ask a descendant of the American slaves (African American) about who they believe founded the U.S.A. and your answer might be different?  I think the view of the heritage of America will depend on your heritage and forefathers.  If your forefathers were Native Americans, you would likely claim the founders of this country came thousands of years ago from Asia to the American continent.  If your forefathers were African slaves, you would likely claim the forefathers of this country were also Native Americans who were pushed out by European explorers seeking a new land.

Why might there be so much unresolved racial division in the U.S.A.?  I would propose because we have not healed the wounds and generational sins of the forefathers of the U.S.A.  I am reading an interesting book by John and Mark Sandford on Deliverance and Inner Healing.  They presents some really good insights into strongholds that affect larger groups of people including countries.  Their example is Nazi Germany.  There was a concept of an empire spirit that seeks to take over and conquer other Nations.  It seems one root of it could be greed.  Nonetheless, this empire stronghold and generational sins of the forefathers of one group of Nations against others forefathers of other groups of Nations remain unresolved in the land of the U.S.A.  Great wickedness and bloodshed occurred in this land and often in the name of religion.  Great sins were committed against the original inhabitants of this land and other immigrants brought to this land.  I challenge the belief that this country was founded on the Faith.  Telling falsehoods or just occupying land that is inhabited by others is stealing.  Sending blankets filled with small pox to families of Natives with the intention they would get sick and die so one could inhabit the land is murder.  Purposefully taking women from their people in order to obliterate any future ethnic heritage (also known as white washing – done in both the Americas and Australia) is not pure in motives.  Stealing and taking other Nations of people as livestock to build a new Nation that they were told they could not enjoy because they were not human was not Godly and was not Christian.  Raping the same livestock that was also told was not human is not Godly or Christian, and violates Abba’s principles on sexual morality and love.

Yes my friends, this is part of the heritage and foundation of our nation.  There is much healing that needs to take place for our country.  One of the things you learn in the ministry of healing prayer is that before you petition God you clear things up that are broken.  You repent, you cancel Satan’s authority, ask for healing, and then petition/talk with God.  One profound area I learned is the need for us as Believers is to repent and cancel Satan’s authority over us in generational sins, word curses, and inner vows.  Often as Believers we are bound to things that we cannot explain and much of it has to do with bloodline sins.  Sometimes the sins is in the environment or in the land we inhabit.  The prince of the air has reign of this earth and he has no intention of letting this nation be a nation of Beliver’s heritage.  I think our call as Believers is to go back and heal the land, and heal the wounds of the descendants before us.  The descendant victims of the thievery and slavery in the U.S.A. have corporately not healed from the generational sins committed against their forefathers.

Have you heard someone say “Why are Black people so angry?” or “Why do the Natives drink so much or commit suicide so much?”  I’ve heard these statements and maybe the answer is spiritual (generational sin and unhealed land).  Might we consider that the Native peoples are still grieving spiritually the massive thievery committed against their forefathers and their land and culture. Might we consider the descendants of African slaves including my ancestors (African Americans) are still grieving spiritually the massive sins of abuse and thievery of the identity of their forefathers.  Two Nations of God’s people in the Americas have not healed completely from the sins committed against their forefathers.  There is a spiritual bondage and not letting go of the past.  We need to pray for the healing of the generational sins of our forefathers both the offenders and victims.  You may be like my husbands’ family who did not arrive to this land until the early 1900s and have no knowledge or generational linkage to the forefathers of the Native Americans, African slaves, or European explorers but your prayer to heal the land is still needed.  We need to welcome these Nations of the Native Americans and African slaves into the adopted family of Christ.  Though their earthly identity was stolen and great sins were committed against their forefathers (including my forefathers), help them to know that God is the ultimate healer and he is just.  As one of the descendants of the wounded Nations, I can live freely in knowing that my identity is no longer in the sins committed against or by my forefathers but my identity is in an eternal heritage with God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.  Please consider this on our American Holidays (Columbus Day, Thanksgiving).

Lord we ask that you would Bind up the wounds and generational sins of our forefathers and loose healing/freedom to each of us, securing our identity in your eternal family.  Thank you Abba.  – Amen

Discernment: Daughters

DaughtersNancy Alcorn is a phenomenal woman.  She is the founder of Mercy Ministries.  Her message has been imprinted on my heart forever.  Anyone who has worked with young women especially from impoverished backgrounds has worked with many of the “daughters” she describes.  I could identify with Nancy’s struggle with trying to help these young girls who are hurting but being limited by church and state rules.  Many of the hurts the girls feel are major scars inflicted from abuse experienced at young ages.  Fast forward to the preteen and teens and you have the byproduct of that abuse: angry, young women who do not trust.  They are mad, they don’t smile, they’re curious as to why you want to help them, they are amazed you would spend your free time doing something for them and not want anything back, and in/out of juvenile or adult correction facilities.

I love children and especially teenage girls.  Nancy’s message is one that everyone should hear, but especially those that work with young girls.  Nancy has no birth children, but she has many “daughters” that God has entrusted her to raise up.  I will share a brief story about one of Nancy’s daughters.  Nancy spent 5 years working in a women’s juvenile correction facility.  She could see so much potential in these girls and could not believe the world counted these girls out of ever being productive.   God placed upon her heart one girl, one “daughter”.  Over the course of her daughter’s stay, she had the opportunity to share God.  Her daughter had experienced horrific abuse and developed gender identity issues.  Upon her daughter’s release from the facility, Nancy prayed with her and instructed her to find a church within her community so that she could be among other believers and truly accept Christ (spiritual baptism).  Nancy told her that she would be accepted.  The girl was hesitant about this and didn’t believe she would be accepted but she followed Nancy’s instructions.

Many months later, Nancy received a phone call from her daughter’s birth mother.  Her daughter had shot herself in the head and left a gut wrenching note.  She wrote that she went to the local church as she was instructed and she was not accepted.  She was laughed at and judged by her appearance.  So this daughter, went home feeling rejected by the church body who Nancy declared would accept her.  This daughter ended it all before she could experience the joy God had planned for her.   Nancy’s beautiful daughter was heavy with judgment and shame.  She only wanted to be accepted and loved.  There was an opportunity within the church body to love her, but it was squandered.   She ended her life after she was rejected and judged by “believers”.  The TRUTH is that all of God’s believers are sons/daughters of God.  We are coheir’s with Christ (Romans 8:17). The TRUTH is we believers sit at the right hand of God with Christ in the heavenlies above the principalities of this world (Ephesians 2:6).   The moment we accept Christ, we are given the authority over our homes and families and friends.  WE ARE ABOVE the principalities of this world and devil.

The Lord says to live by faith not by sight, trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto our own understanding, and anything not done in faith is sin.  God is challenging us to LOVE!  Nancy said it and a great pal of mine says it “Love on ‘em”.  We are comfortable with our close group of Christian friends but meeting/talking with random strangers feels super awkward.  Wouldn’t it be amazing if we would jump outside of our boxes, step away from our shyness, step away from the mental fear, and jump into the ocean of God.  Interrupt that person dashing for the exit door or texting.  Talk to that person of a different age, style of dress, background, etc.  Introduce yourself and let God lead you.  Satan wants us to be standoffish and make assumptions.  He wants us to be complacent and do nothing.  Reject his LIES and accept the TRUTH…Love.  James 2:2-9 describes well what God’s feels about judgment or favoritism.

Lord, let your words be a Blessing to the readers of your Word and this message.  Speak to us as your Spirit wills, so that we may bear eternal fruit for your kingdom.  Amen

Spiritual Warfare: The Boogie Man, Casper the Friendly Ghost, & other Ghost Stories

ghostIf a child tells you they’ve seen an apparition, you need to be on guard.  Hey if you’ve seen an apparition or have some other worldly manifestation (you know what I’m talking about), YOU need to be on guard. If we can believe the Master of the universe is a Spirit the Holy Spirit, why do rationalize ourselves or children out of the fact that they we did see a dark spirit.  I know the fantasy box (tv) will tell you it’s just tv.  If your child or any child brings you a report of this (or you have a report of this), don’t dismiss it so quickly.  In fact don’t dismiss it at all.  Children have just as much ability to “hear” and “see” as we do.  If your child or any child brings you a report of this in your home, you need to take note and stand guard.  Put on the Armor of Ephesians 6 and start cleaning house.  Sorry…not talking spic and span.  😉  You exactly know what I’m talking about.

“Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.” Exodus 34:14.

God is commanding us to get rid of our idols.  It could be a physical idol, it could be a relational idol, it could be a habitual idol, it could be many things.  Whatever it is, get rid of it!  You need to clean your house and ask the great counselor, the Holy Spirit, to help you do it.  If you don’t know what “it” is that allows “the boogie man” to enter, then ask God to help you discern it.

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”  John 14:26.

God spent quite a bit of time with the big ten.  You know them: 10 commandments.

“You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.  You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6but showing love to a thousand [generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments.”  Exodus 20:4-6.

God is very clear about this.  NO IDOLS….isn’t it odd that there are t v shows that promote something God tells us not to do.  If we don’t “clean house”?  Don’t be surprised if your child (or you) continue to experience the work of his darkness.  And his darkness is not a friendly ghost.  If you welcome it into your home (knowingly or unknowingly), they…yes…they will gladly come in a bring a legion of their friends along (Luke 8:30, Mark 5:9, Mark 12:45).  It is time to CLEAN HOUSE!  Ask the great counselor, the Holy Spirit, to help you CLEAN HOUSE!  If you don’t believe in the boogie man or casper or any spirit, but want a easy read check out this awesome book by Perry Stone.
